BROOKLYN, N.Y. – November 13, 2017 – St. Joseph’s College (SJC) is pleased to announce that it will once again partner with Grandma’s Love to prepare Thanksgiving food baskets for families in need in Brooklyn. Building upon the success of last year’s collection, this year’s project aims to provide 50 families across the borough with the staples they need to enjoy the holiday with their loved ones.
“One of the newer and most energizing student projects at SJC Brooklyn is the Grandma's Love Thanksgiving food drive,” said Sherrie Van Arnam, vice president for student life at SJC Brooklyn. “I never cease to be amazed at how our students demonstrate their gratitude for all they have through serving others.”
Sponsored by SJC Brooklyn’s Student Government Association (SGA) and the Campus Activities Board (CAB), this program brings together student athletic teams, clubs and administrative offices to provide food items to include in baskets for eligible families. Last year, the SJC Brooklyn community collected enough food to completely cover five eight-foot long tables and easily doubled their original goal of making 20 baskets for families. This year’s baskets will be packed and delivered on Friday, November 17 in preparation for the upcoming holiday.
“Every year, the students of SJC Brooklyn generously support our annual Thanksgiving food drive for families in need,” said Theresa Montforte-Caraballo, founder of Grandma's Love. “Their kindness enables us to serve far more people than we otherwise would have been able to.”
