The annual SJNY Student Research Symposium will be held this year on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 5:30 – 7 p.m. in the Tuohy auditorium and the student lounge. The SJNY Student Research Symposium is a university-wide event that allows undergraduate students from any discipline to celebrate their research with the entire SJNY community through poster presentations, short paper presentations, 10-minute talks, or even an art exhibition. The SJNY Student Research Symposium gives undergraduates an opportunity to hone their communication skills by providing students with a supportive environment of peers and mentors, giving them a low-stakes chance to practice talking about their research.
Anyone interested in participating should submit a proposal by Wednesday, April 22 using the Brooklyn Student Research Symposium form.
Short talks are live, oral presentations that are allotted up to 10 minutes, plus three minutes for questions and answers from the audience. Short talks can be from any discipline, presenting any type of research. Presenters will use slideware to support their talks.
Each presenter will be allotted a 4' wide by 3' poster board (tacks will be provided). You will be expected to remain with your poster for the entire length of your session. Poster presenters are advised to build their poster using PowerPoint. Instructions on how to create your poster, poster examples, and a fully customizable PowerPoint poster template may be found under the Poster Guidelines tab below.
Art exhibitions may include painting, drawing, sculpture, craft, print, graphic/digital design, photography, or mixed media work. Individual projects are preferred, but group presentations will be considered if they are proposed under a cohesive topic or collaborative project. Participants must work with an art faculty mentor in preparing their abstract. For more information, please contact Jane Beckwith at [email protected]. Follow Art Exhibition guidelines when preparing your proposal.
